What in this radically different environment might make it possible for them to prioritize DNA repair? Simply less pathogens, or radicals? But then why wouldn't other ground or isolated animals have similar characteristics?

Bravo Naked Mole Rats! They do seem to have evolved to achieve a Goldilocks physiological balance for their ecological niche. Meanwhile we humans are messing with our Goldilocks planet big time.

I appreciate the importance of suppressing inflammation because I have rheumatoid arthritis. But the treatments for RA put patients at risk of infection. It is tricky to find a balance. There is a new treatment for RA that uses an implantable stimulator of the vagus nerve. I am curious about whether this approach may suppress the immune system in a more nuanced manner.
