Thank you, Dr. Topol and Professor Ramakrishnan, for this invaluable discussion. As always with you, Dr. Topol, you come well prepared (3 pages of typed notes, e. g.) and with intelligent questions. Professor Ramakrishnan’s perspective on the science of aging is exactly what is needed, as demonstrated in his comment, “what I've tried to do is give the general reader a real understanding of the biology of aging so that even a complete non-scientist can get an understanding of the processes, which in turn empowers them to take action to do the sort of things that will actually really help. And also it'll guard them against excessive hype . . .”.

As the first step in coping with the aging process, it is critically important to understand, and to be realistic about, what happens to us as we age (even for those of us who live in California, as members of my family do😎). It is abundantly clear that Professor Ramakrishnan’s book makes a huge contribution to that.

BTW, Dr. Topol, I really enjoyed, thanks to Dr. Jetelina, listening to your remarks at the Time100 Health event gala. (Tip of the hat for pronouncing “hyperemesis gravidarum” without skipping a beat, though this was the first you’d learned of it.) Congratulations to you and all present, and thank you for making our lives better!

Spend more time moving your body outdoors and soaking up the infrared light. Even if there is no beneficial effect, you will be happier.

Gary Player, the great golfer, had a wonderful comment at the recent 2024 Masters Tournament. He's 88 years old and in fabulous shape. He (along with Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson) hit the ceremonial first shots of the Tournament, off the first tee, in front of a huge gallery. Player roped it 185 yards down the middle, then did his signature kick-boxing, very high leg-kick, laughed, skipped around. He acts like a 60 year-old... still slim, trim, athletic.

Reporters asked him afterwards, What do you do to stay in such great shape? His answer stuck with me... I've never heard anyone put it like this... so simply: (paraphrasing.) "It's easy," he said. "People eat too much. YOU HAVE TO BECOME AN UNDER-EATER."

There it is! A simple mental image we can all follow.
