As a clinical psychiatrist who started a (non-profit) psychopharmacology research clinic 25 years ago in a CMHC in the U.S., I have always believed the real heros of this era of so many advances in medication treatments of illness at the end of the 20th C, and the first quarter of the 21st, are the "bench" researchers who develop, identify and guide the application of the molecules that have advanced the treatment dramatically of many diseases in our time. This is the first opportunity I have had to say thank you to one. Dr. Knudsen - we are all deeply grateful to you and your many colleagues. We clinicians receive the heartfelt, personal, thanks from many patients, for prescribing molecules that ease suffering, change lives for the better ,and prolong healthy life. I want to relay their gratitude to you and your colleagues. i can assure you that if gratitude was transmutable to a medal award, it would weigh many thousands of metric tons. Most of you are trained as chemists, I assume. Like it or not, you are also alchemists - you are foundational in advancing the treatment of illness with medications, and bettering lives profoundly is magical. Thank you again.
